Review: Primitive Man "Scorn"

By Rev. R4D4

Reviewed 12-12-2013

Doom! DOOM! and MORE DOOM!! Drop-z tuning mastery for Late Night serial killers.
Man mixes in some really neat noisey compositions as well.
Excellent production mixes with tight performances make this a strong release.
According to the Grunt this is making many best of 2013 lists and I don’t doubt it!
No FCCs detected.  Best Tracks:  1, 3, 4, 5, 7 – Rev. R4D4

1.    (11:44) Feedback intro into heavy instrumental  plodding mid-paced rocker, that curves back around to a sludgey motherhumper, kicks into powerviolence style gallop beat, then dirge, YOW.
2.    (4:26) Guttural screams and sludge for those who don’t want to go eleven minutes and still freak out the neighbors. Epic fadeout, good for mixing into next track
3.    (3:23) Sweet industrial track, with hell engulfed vocal scream and guitar feedback. Creepy. This one could work for lots of shows that are heavier but don’t want to go to
4.    (9:08) Demonic! Epic all around. If there can really be a stand-out on this release, here ya go.
5.    (3:11)Weird taps on the pickups with some looped breathing patterns, Primitive Man coming at you with some strangeness. If you dug track 3, you’ll like this one as well.
6.    (2:54) Fastest track yet, kick ass, really a barnburner, hell yes. Rocks the whole way through.
7.    (4:51) Slow paced, heavy, something about solidarity in the astral planes?

Review: Wolves in the Throne Room/Session 2011 Ano Domini

Wolves in the Throne Room- BBC Sessions

Two guitarists and a drummer creating sludgey black-metal evil. No turntableism, no shiny happy people therefore best to play before a sports show or after, so the dark spirits can crush the souls of any team. Or play on Christmas/Easter, that works too. No FCCs. – Rev.R4D4

1. Prayer of Transformation (10:32) after writing your sigils in goat blood in a darkened forest, the Elusive Companions arrive to give you a gift of shape-shifting power and revenge.

2. Thuja Magus Imperium (10:37) More darkness. And possibly an ode to the Thuja tree which can help with the bronchitis that comes with too many DOOM records and bong hits.

Quotes of concern in this week’s Witch Hunt article:

“I wanted to see some mob violence, but it’s probably better that we got back on the boda-boda and booked it out of there, following the healer who also rode on a boda-boda. I didn’t think we were in danger but Luke told me that the crowd knew they could be identified on television and so when the police left they could potentially attack us.”

“How interesting. How bizarre.”

Save the Chickens! Find Peace of Mind!!

Ladies and Gents, a former ThermoNuclear Bar interview guest, publisher and writer Clint Marsh, could really use some listener support. As you well know, he has published an indispensable work of modern living by the very English Reginald Bakeley "Goblinproofing One's Chicken Coop". Of course the book is about more than yardbirds and goblins, it also contains tips and strategies to deal with those troublesome Brownies and well... the best bit is...ACTUALLY, I'm not gonna give it away, so you can listen to our talk here.

Please send this link around to anyone you know who will want to support independent and original writer's and publishers. http://www.welovethisbook.com/diagram-prize-2013?enter_competition=1

The vote is closes in a few days and it only takes a second! Thank you all!! -- Rev. R4D4.

PLEASE VOTE FOR GOBLINPROOFING

Dear Friends,
Perhaps you've heard that Reginald Bakeley's book,
Goblinproofing One's Chicken Coop and Other Practical Advice in Our Campaign Against the Fairy Kingdom, has been nominated for this year's Diagram Prize, an annual award recognizing the new book with the oddest title.
The winner is chosen by an online ballot, and soon. Voting is completely free and takes less than a minute. It would mean a lot to Reg and me both if Goblinproofing got your vote. And tell your friends about it, too -- the more votes, the more chance we have to win.
Please visit WeLoveThisBook.com to take part, and thank you very much for your support.
Sincerely,
Clint Marsh

Spoijef and the Madness of Sheep's Heeeee

Sheep Squeeze was quite possibly one of Redwood City's most underrated but important bands. Rather than spend several hours detailing the history I will point fans of the genesis of Dorkcore and West Bay Hardcore to this collection on bandcamp recently posted by the infamous Christ Heeee (vocalist and sometimes Sheep drummer) himself:

Now why would I commit to naming this post "SPOIJEF and the Madness of Sheep's Heeee"? Quite rightly it comes down to this very artifact:

"I think he talks to it, dude."
First time I met Chris we were in the proto-Sheep band know as DISRUPTION back in '88/'89 I believe. While I was wearing colorful surf shorts, Dan was busting Vision street wear and Don Juan was profiling stone-washed denim jean jackets, Chris wore bright red Stanford University sweat pants and Metallica t-shirts and did this weird one leg kick dance move while singing. He also had this SPOIJEF picture in his pocket. While we were discussing just how songs should go, Chris would look down at his odd creation and smile to himself and then add his take to the song's structures. After jamming I was curious about his fascination and asked to look at the picture - I realized this picture was channeling musical information to him. So naturally stole it and promised that one fine day it would be revealed to all. Today is that day. BASK IN THE UTTER FUCKING GLORY THAT IS SHEEP SQUEEZE!!!!

Curious about the mighty Sheep Squeeze? You can check out some history on the very NSFW blog, EuroTrash Utility Belt, here: http://eurotrashutilitybelt.blogspot.com/2009/05/sheep-squeeze-dorkcore-to-extreme.html
